Why
Some educational content first 🌝.
The reason why silver 925 blackens is due to its exposure to various substances capable of activating the silver sulphide, the real responsible for blackness. Humidity, sweat, chemical products, etc. can cause the jewel to blacken. This phenomenon is not a defect and does not damage the silver, but isn’t a super nice customer experience.
Luckily, all our pieces are plated with rhodium. Rhodium plating does not dent, scratch or corrode that easily and retains its luster longer. It guarantees a longlasting quality as long as jewels are worn with care.
Prevent
Still, it’s important to apply some best practices to keep your pieces shining :
- Avoid contact with soap, bodycream, perfume, alcoholic gels (!) and your salty sweat. Also water is not ideal, so better get them off when showering, but don’t drop them too close to the sink or you might need to call a plumber…
- Store them in dark and dry places, safe from corrosion and scratches. Certainly avoid putting them unprotected in your bag, with your keys hitting them every other second…
- Avoid all cleaning agents, especially the abrasive and acid ones, they literally attack these metals.
Clean
Willing to clean your rhodium-plated silver jewels, follow this process :
- First, don’t use toothbrush, toothpaste, abrasives or harsh chemicals
- Prepare a bowl with warm water and add a 1/3 cup of mild / delicate detergent
- Poor your jewels in it for 5 to 10 min. maximum then, gently rub the jewelry with your fingers to clean it.
- Rinse them in room temperature water to remove all the soap residues.
- Gently dry your jewels with a soft towel or a microfiber cloth. Take it smooth to make sure the plating doesn’t come off.
